Healing is perhaps one of the lesser known aspects of Chinese Medicine in the UK even though it is well established in China, in fact there are departments/parts of hospitals given over to Qi Gong Healing.

I personally use Qi Gong healing everyday in my practice and find it very effective.

Usually Qi Gong healing is given without any touching (unlike Reiki). The practitioner (or giver) obtains a state of peace, standing in the first position of Zhan Zhuang. The patient (or receiver) is sitting or lying, the practitioner’s hands slowly descend towards the patient, stopping when contact is made with the Qi - this can feel like a resistant force or static electricity.

Then, after practice, the hands move around the head and body, a tremendous feeling of heat and/or tingling can be felt by both parties.

I recommend that you find a competent teacher, who is willing to pass on these skills, as sometimes if not understood correctly the power of Qi can be overwhelming for both parties.

But, generally a feeling of calm, healing relaxation is reported by both parties as the healing takes place.

Medical qigong treatment or Qi Gong healing has been officially recognized as a standard medical technique in Chinese hospitals since 1989.

It has been included in the curriculum of major universities in China. After years of debate, the Chinese government decided to officially manage qigong through government regulation in 1996 and has also listed qigong as part of their National Health Plan.

Qigong healing can help practitioners and patients to learn breathing techniques, which can be helpful in combating stress and anxiety.

Yan Xin, a doctor of both Western and Chinese medicine as well as founder of the relatively popular Yan Xin Qigong School, suggests that in order for qigong to be accepted by the modern world it must pass the test of scientific study.

Without such studies, Yan maintains, qigong will be dismissed as “superstition” In the mid-1980s he and others began systematic study of qigong in some research institutions in China and the United States, more than 20 papers have been published and can now be easily examine on the Internet.

I have several Reiki Masters who attend my classes and they report a different healing sensation to Reiki, sometimes we wonder who is healing who, or is Qi healing both.
